Is Real Estate Dead?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this over the past year: “So you’re in real estate—must be pretty brutal right now, huh?” Do you know how I respond?
“Actually, things are going well. Investors are buying up discounted properties, first time buyers are getting into homes they couldn’t afford three years ago, and a lot of the part-time, fly-by-night companies are gone. So, no, things are going quite well for me in real estate!”
You should see the look on their faces as most people utter back, “Oh, I see.”
See, the point of this story is that when they ask me how things are going in the market, I don’t reinforce what they’ve been hearing in the media and from their neighbors down the block. So many times you see on TV and in print newspapers that things are getting worse in the housing market and we’re diving down deeper than we’ve been since the 1930’s. But that just isn’t true for everybody, and it needs to be said that a lot of people are thriving in the market today, including our team.
The Minnesota Real Estate Team is a group of 35+ agents around the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota and Wisconsin areas that specialize in many aspects of real estate: investing, first time buyers, short sales, relocation, and move-up buyers to name a few. In fact, we’re on pace to nearly double the amount of sales we had last year in 2007. So while many shops are closing up their doors we are really expanding and helping even more people in this “horrible” market.
The moral of this article is to make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who are taking the new challenges head-on, and not following the crowd of doubters and quitters.
I’ll leave you with a quote by Eric Hoeffer, a 20th Century social writer in America; it reads, “In times of change, the learners will inherit the earth, while the knowers will find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”
